Hey All,
On behalf of NETCOIN, we wanted to give you an update on the coin and the most recent developments. We have made some updates, and will require an upgrade prior to Block 438500.
Here’s a quick breakdown....The new version of the wallet is 2.2.0 and the upgrades will fix:
1) Issues with digishield that we found in the code (basically 2) Improve transaction times.
So here's what you'll need to do:
1) Download the latest client (version) of the wallet (Now on the website...http://netcoinfoundation.org/). It'll be version 2.2.0 2) If you want, backup your current wallet.dat (There's really no need to, but we encourage people to backup their wallets once a week as it's a good habit). 3) Extract, and launch the new wallet.
That's it.
Much easier than the last upgrade right?
All the best, and enjoy your NET!!!

Still waiting on the mac, but no need atm. Something has not turned out right. No one panic but we may have found ourselves a little nasty pickle. Things are being tested and we see what is going on but need more investigating on how to proceed. Please refer to the ANN thread for further details.
Needless to say it is a mix-up in codes but do know we do see what is going on.

Hey netminer, yeah I know it still works and all but it isn't the right chain... We're currently debating on doing a coin swap... How do you feel about this?
Do you perhaps have any suggestions for us because something is really wrong and I'm not sure how we are going to proceed at this point, any help would be greatly appreciated.
One way or another we'll get it sorted though

I've posted my initial thoughts on the communities input thread:- forum.netcoinfoundation.org/thread/754/communities-inputbut while i'm thinking out loud, maybe you could weigh in on the following (i am aware that some of these ideas may be retarded):- I assume a rollback to the previous wallet/blockchain isn't possible? with a coin swap for only the recently generated fork block chain coins - this might hurt the coin less and most holders of the currency and exchanges wouldn't really be effected. do you know how many folk are using the new wallet since it became available, i bet there are a lot more using earlier versions of the wallet. what about netcoin using a wallet like multi bit - where the whole block chain is not stored locally just your transactions. (obviously there would need to be a few copies of the whole block chain with a few users to verify against).

(obviously there would need to be a few copies of the whole block chain with a few users to verify against). Okay I will take a look at that... Hmmm really, no I fail to see the point of going back to the old chain, it was still wrong anyway, that's why we tried to fix it in the first place... So what will it solve? Also there are some good benefits of moving to a new chain. I am not sure why anyone will be affected to be honest... Anyone that has their coins on an exchange won't need to lift a finger, life will go on as normal... Those with coins off the exchange will just need to send us their wallet.dat and address and we'll handle the rest... I think it will be a minor inconvenience for a great reward, that is a stronger more up to date codebase and as you say we can look at multi bit (I have no idea what that is right now). We can choose a codebase that has multialgo or whatever... I think we are fighting a losing battle wrestling with this chain to be honest. Also a benefit of using the current chain is it is well and truly stuck, so when we pre-mine the total coin supply it will be spot on. Rather than it keep moving.

that's a fair call - if there are fundamental problems with the current chain (and previous chains) then i'd agree to cut our losses developing them any further. it sounds like you have a handle on how to keep disruption to a minimum and hopefully the exchanges will all switch seamlessly to the new model so most people who hold their online won't even know. So if the direction really is to switch up - it is vital that we choose a stable and proven codebase that can evolve and adapt to the most advantageous cutting edge advancements in anonymity, security, transaction speed and ease of use. The coins I'm aware of that are currently interesting for these reasons are:- 1. phoenix coin (neoscrypt) phoenixcoin.org/archive/neoscrypt_v1.pdf (source: github.com/ghostlander/NeoScrypt) this is ASIC resistant and also going to be adopted by Feathercoin in the near future. 2. sonic screwdriver (SHA-256) bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=755180 this uses Tor and a number of other interesting security tweaks for more anonymous and private transactions. It also has the unique feature of embedding transaction data into an image. There are probably a few more inventive coins doing the rounds at the moment too, these are just the ones i like the look of.
